i've got an 86 245. if your talking about the cargo windows, here's what i did, and the same can probably apply to the hatch window.
i've replaced the right rear cargo window (long, rectangular one) gasket with a later model gasket. it was rusting in the lower right corner above the black grille & i had to do some spot rust repair under the gasket.
most of the gasket sealant seemed to be some dried, black butyl-looking stuff.
i had to reseal both 1)the window in it's rubber gasket groove & 2) between the gasket & metal.
i used this 3M stuff that comes in a caulking tube. it's a polyurethane, spreadable goo stuff, that dries like stiff rubber, but not like glue. it's good on glass, rubber, metal, plastic, etc. can be used to seal windshields, too.
it's called 3M Resealant, 3M p/n 08364. it can be found at local auto paint stores for about $8-10.
apply sparingly as a small, continuous bead--watch out, it gets sticky! i used a $2 windshield razor scraper from walmart to scrape off any excess stuff from the window after it dried. dries in about 6 hrs in the sun, 24 hrs max.
i was able to push the gasket off & back on in short 1/2 sections without scraping the metal rim, until the bottom was out and i just pulled it out after that.
