Soundproofing Question (Possibly for Dave Shannon) 200 1983

I read Dave Shannon's web page about soundproofing a 245 and found the part on www.mcmaster.com. Part # 9709T26. The Viscoelastic asphalt sheets come in 24" x 54" sheets at $22.50 each. Question is, assuming I go from the back seat of my 245 to the firewall (probably won't do the wayback at this point), how many of these sheets should I need? I've already got the hood quiet kit from IPD and under dash mats from a diesel but I still think my car has too much noise in the cabin.

If you have good seals in your windows and a good quiet exhaust you won't have to sound proof. Keep in mind some tires can be loud too. I just wouldn't add anymore weight, 240's are heavy enough and with gasoline at $2.00 its only making your 240 more expensive to drive with the added weight.

Soundproofing Question (Possibly for Dave Shannon) 200 1983

I just soundproofed my 240 a month or so ago- I looked at brownbread, phatmat, dynamat, etc, all seemed to expensive and too thin. in a volvo- there is a ton or room inside the doors. I went to the carpet store and bought 3/4 inch felt carpet mat, cut it to fit the inside of the door, adhered it with thick rubber cement (further dampening) and then once installed, covered all the felt with that reflective tape used for ducts and ventilation systems- so you get the tape (like the reflective stuff on dynamat and others) the felt, which is 5 times thicker and more absorbant that dynamat rubber, plus the thick rubber adhesive. my doors give a nice thick thud when they shut- and road and engine noise is greatly reduced. next I'm working on the trunk and hood. total cost is probably about 25 bucks

Soundproofing Question (Possibly for Dave Shannon) 200 1983

Hello, you can do it that way, or just get some of the sponge material under 240 carpets. i got 4 extra (2 under the front seats, 2 under the wagon back seats). the 4 extra are an almost perfect fit with only minimal trimming.

after putting newer 240 carpet & putting rubber volvo mats, the decibals have noticeably dropped.

Now i hear the noise from the outside!!

3 rolls will do a good job, for complete coverage get 4. Good luck and enjoy the improved sound.
