'93 wagon a creature of moods

It's just great to have a source of advice - thanks to all, each time.

My '93 240 wagon is worse than a woman (no offense to brick-femmes)

Sometimes, when it takes the mood, it will moan pitiously when pulling up to a stop. I thought it might be brakes but it sometimes happens pulling away from a standstill. This might be serious but it's mostly embarassing as heads turn. It will be more than embarassing if its a wheel bearing.

Then, today, it stuttered and stumbled and finally quit. It would start but not take throttle. I limped it into a patch of shade (first priority if you're going to be sitting for a while). After several starts and failures, a 10 minute rest and another start seemed to solve the problem and I was able to drive home. BUT, I sure don't want that to happen under less commodious circumstances.

Any experience or ideas on either or both?

Thanks

I can't comment on the moaning, but a typical hot start problem on the later cars is a bad crank position sensor, located on the back of the engine near the firewall.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

This might very well have been a hot-start problem because it was quite a warm day and I was cruising neighborhood streets at low speed when the problem occurred.

I'm going to have to get a Bentley manual. I have a Clymer book but it doesn't really cover the minutae.
