960 Weight 900

Hi Ya'll,

I thought the 960's weight was around 3400. The other day I checked the sticker on the driver door and it said the Gross Net weight was 4450 lb.

Yet, I'm confused because I went over a couple of websites and they too said it was 3400 lb (NHTSA for one). In addition someone brought it up yesterday.

The reason I'm asking is because the weight is important, as many of you already now, and it affects what kind of ramps, jacks, and stands you use; it becomes a safety concern.

So whats the deal? Is the 1996 960, 3400 lbs or 4450 lbs? Or am I misinterpreting something?

Thanks in advance,
Al

Hi Al, the difference is between the curb wight - 3400 without load and gross wieght -4450 which is the limit for the axels with load of any combination of passengers and/or cargo. The curb wieght of a sedan is about a 100lbs more than the wagon but both have the same gross wieght limits. hope this helps.

I found it interesting that the 960 sedan weighs more than the wagon by a wopping 100 lbs! (I know this because I've owned one of each. Yes 3475lbs as I recall is the curb weight.
I think the gas capacity is one reason, since the sedan has 3.5 gal larger tank than the wagon and the curb weight accounts for a full tank. The IRS is different, so that might add up also.

Yes, I think the curb weight includes a full measure of fluids, including gas, but no humans, dogs or luggage. So there's your 100lbs. Gross weight is fully laden.

I think you may have misread. Net weight is how much the thing weighs. Gross weight is how much the thing weighs + the maximum amount of weight you can carry in it. No such thing as "gross net weight".

Sounds as though your car weighs 3400 lb, and you can carry an additional 1050 lb of weight in it. Five 200 lb folks means you haven't much luggage capacity :)

Actually, the Net weight is the load capacity of the car. The Curb weight is the actual weight of the vehicle unloaded. The gross weight is the total of the two added together.

      Curb weight (3400) + Net weight (1050) = Gross Weight (4450)

My old 760 was about 3400, I can't imagine how the car could have grown by 1000 lbs in 9 years.
