oil filter reccomendation 700 1989

Have 89 740 16 valve. Have read until I am almost blind and still would like to know what is best choice of oil filter(s). Most posts I have read start getting personal and of on a tangent. Best I can tell is Fram are caca and Mann get a lot of attention on the boards. Mann are hard to find locally for me. Are there any good replacements(make and model) that I might find locally? I will order Mann if that seems to be the best if not only suggestion.

use the biggest meaning largest capacity oil filter that has the same seal ring diameter as stock...i've used amsoil's filters for years...the bigger the filter the more capacity for oil filtration...its cheap insurance...have fun

Most of the people who post here or at Volvospeed in the last three years have reccomended Volvo or Mann.

Mann states on their web site that their filters incorporate all the features that their OEM branded filters have.

Check the FAQ on 700s for a drain tip that works pretty good when changing the filter, I tried it and it works!

Always use a Volvo OEM or Mann filter on your car. Your right about the Fram's also known as the Orange can of Death. Rolyak gave you the info you need for ordering a 10 pack. If you need a filter to get you through, until they come in, the Mobil One or K&N oil filters are a close second to the Mann/Volvo filters. I hope I'm right on the other there is third filter that is suppose to a fairly good filter the NAPA "Gold" oil filter. But as I said before Volvo / Mann filters are the best oil filters out there for your Volvo.
Stop over at www.bobistheoilguy.com for detailed info on oil filters. There is not a better site on the net for any type of oil, lube or filter info.

I just order 3 of the Mann filters off the internet, and when I get to the last one I re-order. I don't know much about filters but I like the Mann ones.

Go with the Mann- 10 packs are available from IPD and FCP Groton.
Wix also makes an excellent filter but I like having filters delivered to my door- no tax-no extra trips to the parts store- etc.
I believe Mann may also be the OE supplier and if I run all highway miles the oil stays clean to 3000 miles. (I still change it at no more than 3500 though)

Ford Motorcraft FL-1A if you have the space (it's taller than stock), FL-300S if you don't. They're essentially Puralator Pure One's (synthetic fiber filter, good bypass and anti-drainback valves), only it's cheaper than a Pure One because it's in a Ford can.
