Why does my alternator bushings doesn't last long? 700 1989

Hi again

My alternator is situated right in front of the oil filter. It has two rubber bushings which to date I've had to replace almost every year as the bushings will be deformed causing the belts to misaligned and the alternator to vibrate causing a nasty vibration. No belt noise though.

Is this typical of the life of these bushings? Anything else I can do or check to prolong their life? I'm due again to change these bushings soon.

Thanks to all

I also would subscribe to the theory that you are tightening the belts too much.

If it isn't a worn alternator hole as Tony suggested, the problem may be poor quality bushings. Maybe the belt tension is too high. IPD sells urethane bushings which should last forever.

Do the Bushings look bad when you replace them? I had a problem that I thought was Bushings. It ended up being that the Alternator itself was worn. One of the holes that the long Bolt goes through was worn and elongated. When I tighten up the belts, the Alternator would shift causing the Pulleys not to line up. So look at the holes on the Alternator.
