Looking for a good Body 444-544

The deal has just not happened. Promises made in September have not come true so I'm back in the market for a nice body, doors and fenders for a 444 or 544. Anybody have something of interest??

Found IT! 2483866939 on ebay! Absolutely the car of my dreams. 444

Vehicle Description

you are bidding on a 1957 volvo 444, 2 dr. coupe. it is a swedish version (not US spec). car is missing engine, transmission and driveshaft. it was used for a prop by volvo cars of north america. the cars were stacked 5 high and this was the top one at the N.Y. auto show. original color was blue but painted white for the photo shoot. later it was used in the intro of the 850 model going across the desert and it was painted red to match the 850 color. it has been stored on gravel recently and has some slight floor rot. the paint is very thick and is peeling from the metal in some places. all lights wiper motor trim etc are in place. it would make an ideal transplant recipiant for SCCA racing or for fun. no headliner, chrome could use replating but no rot thru, no radiator or shroud, hub caps are present, no trim rings. there is no evidence of any major body damage. trunk handle and bulls eye license plate light, radio are all missing. buyer is responsible for picking up from zip 10965

And it have never had an engine while in this country. Has been sitting waiting for me for years and I cannot wait. Split windshield is cooler as is a smaller window in the rear. Not to mention the crazy taillights on the body (not fenders) and the single turn signals at the top, rear of the door!

Virgil 2.0 here we go!

Christopher

Congratulations... good score!

Can't wait to see more pictures and updates when you get 'er home. '57s are pretty hard to come by in the states. I like the earlier grille surround. And them tail lights are hell for cool. And you got the little roof/rain gutter lights... neat neat neat...

Yeah, I linked that auction in below but at that time there were only 5 hours left, I didn't know if you find and bid on that in time. Really neat car there (in your neck of the woods as well!), and you aren't paying for a B16 drivetrain you don't need. I wanted to bid on it myself but it's just not quite the right timing.

I have an ex-wife that had a great body even though she had a lot of miles on it. No rust but it was expensive. So you probably woulden't be interested besides she was an older model.
Good luck on finding one and hope you find one without any major rebuilding to be done.
Dennis

Might be too short notice for you, but:

I was/still am giving some consideration to getting it and moving all the fun parts over from my '64 544. The underside of the 544 is pretty bad, as I'm reminded every time I get underneath it (last week - putting that blasted driveshaft support doughnut bushing back in place - AGAIN!), and I really like the 444's split flat windshield and dash as compared to the more modern-ish looking 544.
