How do I remove tailgate innerliner on 740 stn wgn? 700 1991

I know this is stupid, but I am trying to tighten up a loose rear wiper. I can't figure out how to remove the tailgate inner liner. I don't know how to open up the fitting around the inside latch. Help!

Keep in mind, you install the tailgate differently than you remove it.

During removal, you slide it up as you pull it off, the fastners slide out of their mounts.

When you are ready to install it, remove the fastners from the trim piece and slide them into their mounts, then you just push the trim onto the fastners.

To remove the interior trim on your 7xx tailgate you can first try the 700/900 FAQs on this site.

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/

Especially

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/InteriorTrimandPanels.htm#745945WagonTrimPanelRemovalandAccess

Which is "745/945 Wagon Trim Panel Removal and Access. [Tips from Bill Peyton]"

I did this on a 1987 model last week, and it differs in small details about fasteners, but the concept is the same:

Remove a portion of the central trim (around release lever), by prying and praying.
Which reveals the means to remove mor of it.
Then free the lower edge of the humongo tailgate trim.
Push all upwards (vertically) to free it.

Pictures would help the first time. :-)

On my 245, I just covered a putty knife with duct tape and pried the bottom corner off the metal until I could get my fingers in and carefully pulled the liner away from the metal. It is fastened with plastic expansion tabs which are easily broken, so be careful.

Rather than taking the entire panel off, I just opened it enough to get my hand in and wrench the bolts tight again.

Good luck,

Klaus
