Acceleration 700

I have a 1989 740T, B230FT w/ LH 2.2 (No Regina/Rex). Built in Halifax for Canadians eh. She hesitates on acceleration. Starts fine, idles fine but will surge at idle to 1500-2000 RPM at irregular intervals and settle right down again. No smoke, no oil problems. New O2 sensor, engine and coolant temp sensors good. Knock sensor good. New fuel filter. All grounds checked. All vaccuum lines checked. Throttle body cleaned, idle adjusted and TPS set. Suspect running lean. Warm or cold symptoms the same. Hesitates under load at high or low speeds. Gentle acceleration everything seems fine. FPR vaccuum hose removed and engine idle picks up 200 RPM, one thread said this is a test of FPR condition. Help.

    Acceleration 700

I thought I read a service bulletin for connection problems causing erratic idle. I will have to see if I can find it again. It might not be your problem with hesitation but maybe it has something to do with the idle surges. I believe it was one of the big multipin connectors around the ignition coil. It sounds like you already looked for vacuum leaks.

Thanks for your interest. The idle problem seems to have been a symptom of a damaged spark plug lead. But for sure the hesitation in acceleration is due to a LEAN mixture problem; as the plugs will testify.
