What's wrong with your driver's seat now? You could swap them whole, but that's a pretty lazy, half-assed way of going about it. All of the adjustment knobs would be on the inside, and the passenger's side would have the seat height adjustment mechanism that is intended for the driver's side.
It's actually quite easy to do repair jobs on seats. Why don't you take the seats out and just swap the parts that are bad? Once you get the seats out of the car and the upholstery off (all you need is a pair of nippers or wire cutters), you can easily swap out the seat foam, which is usually what goes bad on the driver's side. You can also repair the lumbar support on the seat back, and the springs in the seat bottom, to name two other things that often need repair. Another advantage to taking the upholstery off is that you can wash it in the washing machine and it really renews it. Don't worry, reinstalling the Volvo upholstery is very easy and doesn't take special skills or tools, other than a box of hog rings and a pair of hog ring pliers (available for a few bucks at any hardware store). Alternatively, you can use plastic wire ties to put it back together instead of the hog rings.
Once you take the old upholstery off it's self explanatory as to how to get it back on. The thing that isn't obvious is how to get the headrests off. It's easy, but you have to know where the tabs are hidden that you have to push on from the outside. There is a picture of it that hopefully somebody will post for you.
