Just how do you replace the sedan trunk support struts?? 200 1989

I'm tired of getting bonked on the head every winter by that %^$%#%$^^ trunk lid! So I was thinking of replacing the support struts, but...... just how do you take those blasted things off, and most importantly how do you put the new ones on? This job doesn't look as easy as the 245's struts, as there seems to be an expanding rivet and a roll pin involved.

TIA Merlin

piece of pie, but you really oughta have a partner.

Get in the trunk & close the lid. Partner comes in handy just in case you LOCK the lid!

Using VERY STURDY zip ties or bailing wire, hold the struts in the compressed state. Open the lid, and the struts fall out. Be careful of the bonk!

Installation, as they say, is the reverse of removal.

Thanks!!!!! I just got the dumb things off! When I first looked it seemed that the roll pin and rivet had to come off. I didn't realize the supports were on forked mounts DUH! Now to get new ones tomorrow!!!!
