Thank you all for your responses for my previous post.
http://brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=811650
After I recharged my system the a/c started to work. It took 24 oz (2 bottles) of Freon and the pressure on the low side is 35 psi. The only thing that bothers me is the A/C Compressor Magnetic Clutch. It is always engaged.
Is it normal? Did I overfill the system?
Also, I think I found a slow leak in my system. It leaks through the service port valve. I looked for a special tool to tighten it up in AutoZone and other stores but wasn't able to find it. My local mechanic said that usually tightening up the valve will not stop the leak.
Any ideas?

Are you talking about a leak at the valve in front by the radiator that looks like a shop air quick connect fitting? or the schrader valve(tire stem like)valve. I have a leak at the quick connect type valve. What can be done there?

In case you haven't gotten it yet, the part number is 1259367, and lists for $22.00. I get them after market for $14.00.

Sure, you can use the same tool to tighten the core as you do for a tire valve stem. I've removed / reinstalled several.
If the service port core is bad, you will have to replace it. No other "cherce."

I was going to answer, but I've been taken off of A/C answers by the far superior and more knowledgeable expert (and all-around friend to all) who posted below.
Anyway, he knows everything about everything, and don't you ever question it!

Chris H. I have read your posts for years. You got my respect. Chrissi is a she, not a he, and she seems to give some pretty good advice.
I remember that the two of you had a little spat a while ago. May I suggest that you kiss and make up. You are both serving a common cause - keeping our cars in tip-top shape.
Your post above, sadly, does not serve this purpose. Rather, it is an attempt to start trouble.

Well, his/her post a while ago, did not serve that purpose either. Now it has been appropriately reciprocated. She and others like her are exactly the reason this is just about my last stop on the internet nowadays. Cost to benefit ratio of this board for myself is pretty poor. Also the lack of thanks when you solve someone's problems since the late 90s for nothing, and instead of thanks, you get a foot in your ass. Well, my ass, I mean.

Dear Ian,
Good p.m. and may this find you well. Your advice is well taken.
As, however, one of the parties is married - and possibly both - the suggestion that they "kiss and make-up" might give rise to further ructions.
However, a friendly hand-shake is unlikely to be problematic. In any case, their going silent would be a huge loss to the rest of us, and I earnestly hope it won't happen.
I, too, fear the impacts of incendiary comments, especially for those, who work under the hood. Heaven help us, should such comments be made near a leaking fuel rail.
Yours faithfully,
spook

I guess you realize you've no worries regarding me being silenced...though I am certain many persons through the years would have liked to have been gifted with a quiet Chris, but ah well, such is life. I'll continue answering questions to the best of my ability, and hopefully will be the first to admit when I've made a boo boo. I am sometimes stricken with PMS (Pissy Mechanic Syndrome), but I rather like being referred to as "friend to all", and now need to figure out which Charles thinks I'm a goddess. I see a free oil change in his future.

He would want to kiss and make up if he saw her. She's my technician and she does know almost everything. She is a volvo goddess.

Spook,
I have been chastised by Chris as well. She left a message thanking me for the compliment but stated that she would have preferred if I had done so from my computer. She said she had no idea how many people she had answered as someone else.
I was picking up my car and they were still hard at it. Her computer was on this posting and I felt the need to defend her. If you were ever fortunate enough to know her you would also leap to her defense.

Dear Charles,
Good p.m. and hope you're well. I wasn't "chastising" you: far be it from to do that!
Rather, I tried - humorously - to make the point that anyone with Chris' skills, likely merits having capital letters used, in any form of address.
Excellence in the diagnosing and healing of ill Volvos is not unlike that required to heal ill humans: it takes a mix of skill and art. The very best combine these in perfect proportions. Such persons are rare.
If we address those, trained to heal persons, as "doctor" and expect them to have after their names (at least in the US) the letters, "MD", perhaps for those with similar expertise, who heal Volvos, the letters "VG" should follow.
Yours faithfully,
spook

We replace the port charge valve line with a new one without the port charge valve. I suspect none of our cars will need to be shipped to another "port" anytime soon. I have the part number at the shop, and can get it for you then.
While your car is sitting at idle, it is normal for the AC compressor to stay on if you have your AC at it's max setting, as I am sure you do since you were charging it. It will cycle when the pressures lower, typically on acceleration. 35psi is just about as right as you can get.
