Hood won't latch. Did I loose a part? HELP! S90-V90 1998

My wife brings home the V90 and says the hood won't stay shut. I look at it and she's right, it goes all the way down but it's not catching on anything. The big hook drops down through the hole where the secondary (safety) catch is but there is nothing underneath that for the hook to grab. What is it that actually grabs the hood and holds it tightly closed? I took off the grill and I can't see where anything is missing... I mean there is no place where it looks like a part fell off. I don't know anyone else with a 960/V90 so I can't look at another one. Dealer's closed on Sunday so I can't look at a parts book. Can someone please post or e-mail me a picture of the thing that holds the hood tight, or describe it? Does it work with the big center hook or is there something else?? Thanks!!!

    OK, I know it's a broken spring, now how do I fix?? S90-V90 1998

Sorry about the first post, I didn't investigate enough. Yes, I see that there are two catches, one on each side. I also discovered my inside release handle is slack. That means (I assume) the return spring on the mechanism is broke. Another one of the hunderds of cheap, under-spec'd parts on these cars.

Now, does anyone know where the spring is located???

OK, I know it's NOT broken springs, but should I replace them anyway?? S90-V90 1998

OK, sorry about the first two posts but now I really see what's happening and not happening. I took the release handle out from the kickpanel and all seemed well there. I took the covers off under the hood that hide the hood latches and saw that both return springs are still in place but the drivers side mechanism had stuck in the open postion (which also holds the other side open and keeps the release handle slack).

I lubed up the pivot points, and worked the mechanism back and forth a few times, and shut the hood. It stayed shut. I realeased it from the inside and opened it and the drivers side latch was stuck open again.

Should I just assume that the springs have lost their umph and get two new ones from the dealer and then WD-40 the crap out of the mechanism, or should I get two stronger springs? Will two stronger ones have a bad effect on the handle/cable (i.e. if you have to pull harder to release, will the cable stretch of the plastic handle break when it's real cold??)

For what it's worth, mine still work fine at 108K, but you do need to grease them on a regular basis, like other moving parts...like your door hinges. If the cable is exposed or you can get to it, I'd WD-40 as much of that as you can do and grease the locking mechanisms with white grease or equivalent.
