Head Gasket Weeping Oil 900

I've been tracking down an oil leak that I assumed was the result of a faulty rear main seal. But after cleaning the engine, it seems to be weeping from the right (passenger) side of the engine, between the head and the block.

I don't recall hearing of this problem before... have others experienced this failured?

Just curious.

I had a leak between the head and the block between exhaust 1 & 2. This is where the oil enters the head through the hole of one of the head bolts, and there is a small "bulge" in the block/head.
I pulled the head and found nothing wrong with the head or the gasket. It took noticeably lower torque though to loosen this head bolt.
My guess is it would have sufficed to retorque this bolt, but as a bonus I had the opportunity to do a valve job and cleaning the head and pistons.
Odometer was at 375' km (233 kmiles) at the time for the head-job.

Hope this helps,
Mikael Larsson

That's good to know, Mikael. I may try re-toquing the head bolts, and de-greasing the engine again to see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks.

Use a dose of leak dye and search for the exact spot(s) with the UV penlight and glasses.
