Carpets for 245's? 200

I am looking to replace the forward cockpit carpeting in my 89 245 wagon. It is a 5 speed if this even really matters, where to look for kits? And also can I use a sedan set or must this be wagon only?

Thanks,

Robert

    Check www.customautocarpets.com

I've been told here on the BB that their quality is very high. I've never actually seen their products.

Sedan, wagon carpets are the same. The rear carpet for wagons have two slots cut out for the rear seat supports, when the seat is folded forward. The wagon carpets slots have the tabs still there , so you can fold them back inplace....the sedan you'll have to cut the slots.

good cleaning and dye info in other post.

The front carpet from a sedan will fit. The rear carpet might, it's been years since I pulled out a 245 rear carpet.

If you can only find a rear sedan carpet, give it a try - if it's not expensive. That is assuming you are looking in a boneyard.

I have gotten boneyard carpets quite clean using the U-Squirt-Em car wash. They have a clip on which to hang a floor mat that will hold a wet carpet.

The high pressure hot water and soap gets out practically everything but undercoating. Allow several days to dry. Protect the floor from normal grit with a bunch of old newspapers.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Absolutely DO NOT ORDER FROM WLS HEADLINERS. They have the lowest quality worst fitting carpet set I've ever fooled with. I did a 1984 BMW 318i and it looked like hammered shi* when I finished it. I called to complain as the set was supposed to be a direct fit and molded for the car....turns out it was just bad quality and not worth the money. You get what you pay for-FOR SURE. Might want to look in a salvage yard to see if you can find a set. Even if it is the wrong color it can be dyed with good results. Don't cut corners on buying cheap dye if you decide to do this. The main thing I've seen with aftermarket carpet kits is the backing padding is much thinner and thus will give you more cabin noise, as well as the weight and orientation of the loop/pile is different, usually significantly lower quality than OEM.Also, don't waste your money on 3-M spray adhesive if you want it it stick-use contact cement and let it dry in a well ventilated area-ie.- windows down. A note of advice: No matter what you go with, go to an auto-body supplier and add to the sound deadening already in your car. It really does make a difference after installation as you will have less tire/road noise.
