oil cooler? 200 1989

I would like to install an oil cooler in my 89 240 DL. where can i tap into the oil so that it would send it through the cooler on the b230f? thanks

The 240 turbo oil cooler uses an oil filter stack adaptor with a thermostat. If you install it on an N/A 240, the oil will likely never get hot enough to open the adaptor. They're basically unnecessary and even worthless on a non-turbo 240, since they run fairly cool oil temps anyway.

BTW, I proved this on my 87. I ran an oil temp gauge, and even while towing a 3000 pound load over the mountain crosssing into North Carolina in August, the oil temp never went over 200 degrees fahrenheit.

If you install an oil cooler without a thermostat, the oil will run so cool that it'll prematurely wear out your engine.

the oil coolers that are on the turbo charged b230's have an oil filter adapter with the pickup and return taps. do you have an oil temp gauge and know that a oil cooler is needed? cooling the oil too much can increase engine wear.

i got a 16V turbo project going and i'm not even sure i'll use the oil cooler. going to run synthetic oil and its water cooled but if it wasn't i'd probably go with the oil cooler. i've read that its very difficult or not impossible to clean and contaiments that may be in a used cooler. to answer your question it connects by an alum. adapter connected to oil filter bolt with 2 hoses running to driver side of the radiator. according to cbolt the theromostat is built in.
