Hello, I was wandering if anyone had the same problem with codes 113 & 115 which I got today and my engine cut off (Restarted without a problem)

I checked and cleaned all connections , Dewfpo I know you had the same problem a year ago, did you finally fix it ?Was it the relay?

Any suggestions much appreciated

Thanks

    Hi SL,

I changed the relay that was suggested but the problem relented. So that was not the cause in my particular case. I tried keeping a log of when it happened to see if I could detect a trend and I couldn't, althought it would happen much more often in hot weather than during cooler weather. Sometimes it would happen 4 times in 10 minutes, other times, once in a month.... go figure.

I tried everything I (and this list) could think of and basically cleaned all the connectors under the hood as DanR suggested and 'knock wood', so far it hasn't happend since last year.

It always starts right up, hardly ever stalls since only one bank cuts out. Sometimes it throws a 113 code, other times it throws a 115 code. Only once did it actually stall and throw both codes. I had 5 people in the car, AC on full tilt, hot July day and I had just gone over a small rise and dip in the road. It started back up and was fine for days.

As DanR suggests, get electronic contact cleaner and disconnect and clean every connection you can find, sandpaper tarnished contacts, etc...

    Good Luck.

I had this problem too numerous to mention on my 92 960. I did alot of what was mention in the previous posts. The relay that controls the injectors turned out to be the problem. I found that the connector(that powers the injectors)in the plug wasn't locked in place and was making poor contact. Once I put the connector back in place in the plug I never had another problem.

When I had the problem the engine would shutdown anytime anywhere. Nothing was consitent. The engine would always restart, but only after I turned the key off and then restarted. Any attempt to start without turning the key off was always unsuccessful. I lived with this problem for over a year before I finally found the problem. Mechanics(some were Volvo technicans) told me to check the grounds and even the power stages, but of course none of these corrected the problem.

It should be noted that the closest Volvo dealer is 130 miles away.

This is one of the most elusive codes one can get, I had it for 6 months. Could never really tell you what cured it. But I had heard on this board about a bad solder point that feeds the grounds for the injectors, one has to remove the intake manifold to get access. I did that and still had the code. That only thing else I did was clean all of the connections under the hood, I mean all. The ground points too. I suspect the cure came from cleaning the big plug connector on the driver side wheel hump. The one under the black box. When cleaning I also gently bend the female plug parts to get tighter fits. Just a guess but I think that is what cured mine, it has been two and half years now. Good luck!

Thanks DanR, I was hoping you would have the time to answer me.
How often did you get these codes? I will clean the big plug as well, what did you clean it with? did you apply anything to keep oxidation away ? Is there a permanent fix for these electrical contacts going bad? I did what I could to what I could reach/ see on top of the engine. So far so good, lets see.I ordered the fault tracing manual from Volvo today, the one you have.

      Thanks a million
      SL
