Sometimes the connector on the bottom of the diagnostic unit gets somewhat wiggled free and dusty...push underneath and wiggle the little wires, turn the key off and on again a couple of times, leave it in the on position, and then try again.
If it started with starter fluid, you basically "primed" the fuel system, indicating a fuel problem. The "prime" is somewhat provided by the prepump. How much gas is in your tank right now? Somewhere around half a tank or less? Of course, don't rule out the possibility that whatever component failed suddenly decided to work, and your providing the "fuel" and having it start, could be just a coinkidink. It's rare...but it happens.
With no code to direct you, which believe me, it just provides direction, it is not definitive, your gonna have to play it by ear. When it won't start, do you hear the fuel pump running? Does the tach wiggle? If the tach doesn't move, you have no spark. If the tach doesn't move, and you hear the fuel pump running, the power stage is the most likely culprit. If you tack doesn't move, and you don't hear the fuel pump running, most likely culprit, crank sensor. If the tack does move (indicating that you have spark) and you don't hear the fuel pumps, pull the ashtray and reach in to the first row of relays, the second small relay from left to right should be blue, and should be your fuel pump relay, is it clicking? If it is clicking, and you don't hear the fuel pump running...possible fuel pump problem, and possible suppression relay problem. If it isn't clicking, possible relay problem.
Hope this helps.
