leak location 200 1983

My 240 has developed an exhaust leak. I can see the fumes under the bonnet and I can hear the tick-tick-tick but can't pinpoint where its coming from. Any tips on locating would be appreciated.

Use the hose = stethescope system, and the hand system (you won't get burned unless you touch the metal).

Check the junction where the exhaust header meets the down-pipe.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Use piece of hose like a stethoscope to locate the leak.

Move your hand along the exhaust until you feel pressure.

What model 240? If it's exhaust in the engine compartment, as B.C. suggests, manifold to pipe would be likely area.

If you can see the fumes it may be oil. eg. from loose filler cap (PVC system clogged).
