seat cushions on 97 960 900

Any tips out there for swapping out lower seat cushions on a 97 960? Do I run any risk of triggering the SIPS? My parts supplier tells me that it is mechanically (as opposed to electrically) actuated, and the replacement part numbers are identical for both sides.

It is more of an electro-mechanincal thing than anything else. If you look on the side of it you will see a round silver or gold thing, if you smack this with a hammer it will detonate a thing that looks a lot like a shotgun shell primer, the pressure from this explosion travels up two tubes (redundancy)to a pressure sensor, when it senses the pressure of the primers going off it detonates the bag. If you look under the plastic housing that houses the seat control switches you should see a little red plastic dealie that you slip in to the triggering device, this will isolate it and prevent an accidental discharge. Otherwise you will need to simply remove the upholstery and the foam and be careful. YOu might as will remove the seats from the car when you do it.
