Upgrading to the Rotary Compressor 200 1984

From what I have seen in some of the threads, two of the pitfalls are (1) one of the hoses needs to be changed because of a change in pressure and (2) a new bracket.

From whence does one acquire these?

    I've seen the bracket at http://www.hirschinds.com The bracket cost $95.00. This bracket "ALLOWS YOU TO REPLACE YOUR YORK UPRIGHT STYLE COMPRESSOR TO THE NEW ROTORY STYLE. YOU MUST ALSO REPLACE THE LOW SIDE HOSE - COMPRESSOR TO EVAPORATOR".

    Upgrading to the Rotary Compressor 200 1984

    Bracket is off the ubiquitous AC equipped 86-on 240, not 7-series. The hose is changed because the York uses a right angle approach to the compressor and the rotary uses a more or less straight drop. You should change to the newer PS pump with the remote reservoir unless you have a turbo, then you need the 90-on combo unit.

      i am planning this swap to the rotary compressor on my 85 244 turbo. i have the bracket, compressor, and power steering pump from a 89 240. it looks like you are saying this will not work. i believe you. but what is the difference? and any other info you can give will be appreciated.

        Oh, it might work if you can find a place to mount the remote reservoir, I couln't easily see where to put it. It is just that with the '90-on PS pump/reservoir that is not a problem. However, that pump reservoir might mean you have to have a slightly angled low pressure hose. I had one for each 24xT fabricated so they come off the compressor and angle back a bit and then come straight up. Gotta clear the PS mount bolts.

          thanks alot. the old york is up and running and blowing cold with upgraded compressor and exp valve. but it sound like a freight train. probably wait a little while as i have other things that need attention. like the driveline shudder and shaking and vibration. probably needs a whole bunch or stuff. but you cant beat a 240 with a turbo ;]
