fuel / temp gauges out...no brake lights also 200 1983

'83 240dl 214,000 miles- My fuel and temperature gauges are out and I am getting no brake lights. I have checked and replaced the fuses and replaced the bulbs for the brakes but still nothing. What else could I check or do?

thanks,

Also check the brake light switch up on the arm of the brake peddle. 12V on one side and wire to lights on the other. Try jumpering it to see if the lights come on.

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere up in the cluster that is causing your gauge problems. Also check to see that nothing has come loose behind the cluster. As far as both brake lights being out make sure that the ground wires that come from the rear light circuits. Another thing that you could check is the Bulb Failure Sensor (Round Plastic like sensor under the drivers side dash). When these go they do cause wierd things to happen with the electrical system and brake lights. Good Luck!
