Fixing Emergency Brake Cable - partsamillion.com 700

I got my short cable through partsamillion.com

Dealer - $130
Jobber - $70
partsamillion.com - $14 - I could not believe that it would be the right part for this price!

The cable came in two days and it came in a plastic bag marked "made in Sweden" this label looked Volvo blue to me. It fit just fine.

They need the serial # of your car to see if it is the "old" or "new" type.

the proper way to repair it is in the FAQ. I did a quick fix by buying a piece of cable and 2 cable clamps at the hardware store to splice the broken cable with. I wouldn't count on this for a long term repair, but as a quick fix.

Fixing Emergency Brake Cable 700

Just was changing the short cable earlier on my '88 740. If your short cable broke, as has on two of my cars, you will be able to replace it fairly easy. I was able to put use two small wire clips to hold the two broken pieces together until I got around to it. You will have to pull the right drum to hook the cable in but that gives you a chance to check the brake shoes and the axle bearing for a leak. My biggest problem was finding the right cable. Foreign Auto had 3 different ones listed for my car so took the old one off and took it to match it up.There is more info in the FAQS. Good luck, Ray

The shorter one is fairly easy, the longer one is more extensive as you have to work it under the car and into the parking brake (ebrake) housing, which has to be removed. Regards.
