Tranny swap from AW71L to AW71, Problem with the conections! 900 1994

Hi!

I have recently got my slef a used 940. It seems like some previus owner swapt the tranny from a AW71L to a AW71.

The OD switch is not working on the car. I have resolderd the relay and now the arrow lights up. So I checked the wiring to the gearbox. To my surprise, the previous owner just cut them. The blue cabel to the OD relay is now connected to the ignition coil, with gives it 12 volt and it´s working. But the second brown cabel, with comes from further back on the tranny is´n connected. I can´t find the cabel from the car it self. I don´t know where they cut it.

I´m now going to try to reconnect the tranny electical. In the AW71L the cabel from pos 87 on the relay energises the solenoid when the button is pressed. And in the AW 71 it cuts the current. I wonder if it enough to just change the relay, so it cuts the current when i press the button? Or should I just add an extra relay?
The second thing what is the second cabel (the brown one) going to and where should i connect the other end? The third problem is where should I look for the original wireing from the car it self to the tranny, it has been cut somewhere and i can find out where.

Thanks Thomas

Tranny swap from AW71L to AW71, Problem with the conections! 900 1994

Thank You for Your replays on my message.

I´ve found the cabel, it was located near the gearshifter. I have now connected the overdrive solenoid to the overdrive relay with an extra relay so that it cuts the current to the solenoid and ligths up the arrow when I press the button on the shifter, and the car shifts down one gear as it should do.

I am still wondering about the "oil pressure kick down valve". What is the function for this valve?
There is no number 8 connection on the overdrive relay socket.
The gearbox seems to work well without it? Do I need to have it connected.

Tranny swap from AW71L to AW71, Problem with the conections! 900 1994

I had to drop and reinstall my AW71L in a ’93 T-Rex/Regina. There was one wire I had to disconnect that came out of the front of the shifter box located under the car directly over the tail shaft. That wire had an in-line, round push-in connector, the same kind used for the horn connectors. I don’t remember the color. I would think that it goes to the OD solenoid.

According to the ’95 wiring diagram, a blue or yellow wire goes to terminal 87 (pin 3) on the OD relay to the OD solenoid. It also shows a brown wire going to an oil pressure sensor kick down valve which I suppose didn’t have, that goes to terminal “blank” (pin 8) on the OD relay. According to this '95 wiring diagram, the “oil pressure kick down valve” is used in certain AW 71 markets”.

AW 70/71/72 all use the same relay and wiring 900 1994

Blue and Brown wires run between shifter button and relay—Blue to relay 15, Brown to relay 86.

"In the AW71L the cabel from pos 87 on the relay energises the solenoid when the button is pressed."

Right. And the next time the button is pressed, it "cuts the current". In other words, the "toggling" relay changes its state every time the button is pushed. "On" powers the solenoid and kills the light . "Off" kills the solenoid and lights the light. Same on AW 70.

Can't help you with finding wires, but here are the colors to look for:
Relay 15—the Blue from the button, and a Blue/Red from fuse 12
Relay 85—the Brown wire from the button
Relay 87A—Yellow/Red to inst panel bulb
Relay 87—Yellow thru 2 connectors then to solenoid
    Relay 31—Black to ground
