rear deck carpet / soundproofing 200 1986

Hi All,

If I look from inside my trunk, I can see that the factory speaker openings are sealed with some sort of black sticky sound proofing material, followed by carpet on top. Is there a wat for me to peel away just the sound proofing material and leave the carpet? I want to install speakers in the rear deck but under the carpet (want to keep everything looking stock).

Thanks

Between the seal and the carpet is the deck lid material. You will need to cut through mutli board stuff doubtfully salvaging the carpet material.

You could just take everything in that area apart, a very easy task by the way, cut to fit your speakers, and re-cover with a material of your choice. Some spray glue & fabric will get the job done.

One year ago, I recovered my deck lid, painted the plastic seatbelt covers, & headrests -in a half day.

Still looks phat... but, seems like it came that way.
