940 turbo will not start 900 1993

would not start last week a couple of times; however by using the 'gas' it eventually started ok, and once started runs very well, with no problems at all.

New fuel relay and rpm sensor. The radio suppression sensor has been resoldered, but as I understand it this provides power to the injectors. When I pull a lead from a plug and check out the spark on a spare plug grounded to the engine I get a spark (just one) st them end of the cranking sequence only - so I am lacking spark - big time. The pumps seem to be running ok .

I have checked this site extensively and although this is a common problem I have seen few 'solutions' posted that do not relate to the rpm , fuel and radio suppression relays. Is the radio suppression relay a possible culprit, I did check it with a meter and the coil looks good.

Tomorrow morning I will take off the distributer cap and see if there is a problem there.

any advice would be welcome.

cheers

Like you suggested, cap and rotor are a definite maybe, but the power stage is also a definite maybe. Given the scenario you have supplied, it's going to be one or the other.

thanks for the opinion - I have studied the circuit diagram and have come to that conclusion. However judging by the frequency of very similar posted problems I was hoping it to be either the rpm sensor, fuel relay or radio suppression relay. I guess the chances of the new fuel relay and rpm sensor being faulty is minimal (from fcpgroton). Although I have resoldered the radio suppression relay, the mechanical connections (some type of rivet) from the bullet like connections to the metal lugs on the circuit board cannot be soldered - what is the likelihood of this connection failing?
As an aside, my volvo fired up after a cooldown and behaved perfectly today, with numerous starts.

thanks again

andrew
