Door Handle Lubrication? 900 1993

My 1993 945 Turbo's door handles get very tough to open from the outside after a heavy dew or rain. What should I use to lubricate them? My wife and kids find it very difficult to open them! I have sprayed WD-40 into the handle from the outside. That works well until it gets wet again. There has to be a better way!

Thanks
Chris In Buffalo

I cheated and did a temporary fix on mine by doing a hit or miss lube by removing the small top bolt on the side of the door near handle (just open door and you see two of them). I think it hold the handle. Took WD40 with small plastic tube that comes with it and put it in the hole, pointing toward handle (with window up of course). It didn't remedy completely, but made them alot easier to open, and was fast and easier than taking apart door. I suspect I'll have to do that some day soon.

Might want to try first.

Gary

Dear Chris,

May this find you well. If WD-40 works well, albeit temporarily, then you're getting the lubricant to where it is needed.

I'd suggest using a product called "Break-Free". It has a certain amount of Teflon in it and has a heavier "body" than WD-40, so it will cling and so last longer.

I have some teflon in aerosol form, but I bought it years ago, and do not know if it is still made/sold. If you can find teflon in an aerosol, that would be even better, as Teflon does not attract/hold grit, as do petroleum-based lubricants.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook

Hi Chris
Spraying them did not help much with my doors-- I had to take them apart and take out the doorhandles. they have another little leaver which cannot be sprayed from the outside. Half of mine did not come out easily, particularily the 6 mm bolt at the front gets very rotten, so that i had to replace two handles completely.
Over and all it was worth the bother, as ever since i done up all the doors, there was no more problems.
