My wife complained about a funny noise from the rear. I test drove the 965 and it sure does make an odd clinking noise. At first I thought it might be the parking brake but now I'm thinking that the CV joint and boot may need to be replaced. Maybe a new boot and grease. I'll have to jack it up and look.

OK, so I'm a procrastinator. I looked at the car this morning and the rear brake splash shield was rubbing on the rotor. I could see it immediatly when I took the wheel off. Just to check things out, I took off the rotor and checked the parking brake. I also sprayed silicone on my cv joint boots.

Remember that "TOM" had that problem and it turned out that the CV at the differential had a bad boot and had lost grease. New boot with new grease fixed his "clinking".

'96 965 with 16' wheels at 114K. Had '85 745 Turbo Diesel for 200K.

As always, check out the easy stuff first. Got a big old dry wall screw in one of the tires? A pebble hung up on one of the calipers? Even a trash bag on the driveshaft might make some sort of funny noise. Or you could do what I do. If you turn up the radio it will either go away or get so loud that you can find it easily.
