Poor cold engine driveability 700 1987

I am still going trough cold engine response problems.
I have changed rotor, cap, wires, plugs, have gotten sensors checked, and yesterday a volvo"specialist" diagnosed that the problem is most probably my "TPS" throttle position sensor, he already charged me $80.00 for testing so I am wondering if really the part identified is or could really be the sources problem.
I would greatly appreciate lots of feed-back i have this natural sceptical apprehension of mecanics .

Please answer me.

Thanks

Denis from Montreal

...and, while you are at it, you might clean the throttle body; also check and clean the IAC valve.....made a world of difference in my brick. Simple, inexpensive first steps.......

the tps USUALLY is not temp sensitive. get a 2nd opinion. i'd like to know how the "specialist" came to this conclusion. good luck, chuck.

I am just a novice, but I would think that is is probably not the TPS simply because the switch is not likely to be temperature sensitive. Many other parts are. If you suspect the throttle switch, just change it yourself for about $45 rather than pay someone for that. It is fairly easy to reach and you only need an allen wrench to remove it. As I recall there is a gasket under it too.

Maybe some others will comment, but I would think the engine coolant temperature sensor might be the problem. You can read about that one in the FAQ.

    Good luck with it.
