Anyway, last summer the compressor cycled on and off as needed. This year it is engaged all of the time and does not cycle off. A/C doesn't seem to be as cold as last year. It is R-12. Anything I should be thinking of?

I'm got a problem on my car where the clutch is engaged even when the key is turned off. The best way to test (without any digital clocks) is to pull the negative battery cable off, and put it back on while watching the pulley. If it moves ans goes "Clang" you got the same problem. If anyone knows what part I should start look at, i'd be helpful. Don't be afraid to use technical terms because I'm well acquianted with electrical systems.

What are the pressures? What fan speed are you trying it on that it does not disengage?

Thank you, Rule 308 for responding. I am very ignorant when it comes to A/C and I do not know how to test the pressures, so I am thinking I might have to take it into an A/C shop for routine diagnosis. By the way, the fan was set to "3" out of 4, and car was idling in driveway. The real reason I was testing it today was to see if the "new" eBay A/C fan I installed would come on. It did when the antifreeze finally got really hot. So I was glad to see I got that fixed.
