5 min cool off starts and runs fine 700 1987

runs fine til heats up then slugish then terrible at idle then dies
let cool 5 minutes and it starts and runs fine again
coil is very warm to touch
could this be amplifier or coil or what?
can amp be saved?

    hi there.go to the 700/900 FAQ click on (electrical:IGNITION SYSTEM)then(intermittent ignition failure).good info there.good luck.charles.
