Plug Wire Positions 200

1988 240DL B230F

I may have mixed up the positions of my plug wires at the distributor cap. Assuming that Piston #1 is the one closest to the front of the car, can somebody verify this matrix:

Plug Wire for Piston #1 - Southwest location at distributor cap
Plug Wire for Piston #2 - Southeast location at distributor cap
Plug Wire for Piston #3 - Northwest location at distributor cap
Plug Wire for Piston #4 - Northeast location at distributor cap

Thanks in Advance!!

Firing order 1-3-4-2 clockwise. 1 is at about 7 o'clock (I guess that would be southwest). There's a slight nick/line on the dist. rim under the cap to mark position 1.

The firing order for a Volvo 4 cyl as with most others is 1-3-4-2. To set things properly, turn the engine until #1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) per the timing marks at the crankshaft pulley. To verify that #1 is on the compression stroke, remove the valve cover and check to make sure that both valves for #1 cylinder are all the way closed, that is the stems are at their highest points.

Remove the dist cap and note which cap terminal the rotor is pointing to. That's where you attach the number 1 plug wire. Turn the crankshaft slightly in the running direction (I think I rember clockwise) and note the direction the rotor turns. Then the next terminal gets #3, the next #4, and finally #2.

Button up valve cover and distrib and you're set.

working from memory that seems right... but i'll try another approach to see if it jives with your setup. firing order is 2-1-3-4... so if you start with plug wire opening on distributor cap for cylinder 2 at the corner closest to the battery, continue clockwise for 1, 3, then 4.

not sure if that helps at all... good luck,
