ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT SPEAKERS 200 1993

Hello everybody. I'm looking for OEM replacement speakers, and in the process of looking, I've found that the speaker mounting holes are not consistent from speaker to speaker, and I'd like to use (even if it is plastic), the original mounting plates. That means I need decent speakers that have that same oddball rectangular mounting configuration. Hole to hole measurements are something like 3-3/4", and 4-1/4". I can check to be sure. Any input will be appreciated. TIA

Marty Wolfson

I have a pair of decent used speakers. Make me an offer and they're on the way to you.

Good luck.....

I replaced the stock speakers with Polk Audio GXR4.
They fit pretty well with the stock grilles.....no modification needed.
You can find the speakers at cruthfield.com.
Hope this helps.

You're right, the 5 1/4" front speakers used in the last few years of 240 production have a strange bolt pattern. You can use a standard pair of 5 1/4" speakers using 2 of the stock holes, and 2 that you drill yourself.

There are also clearance issues caused by the strange surrounds on the cones themselves. The stock surrounds roll down instead of up, and some aftermarket speakers can hit the edge of the stock grille because of this.

I have a pair of Denon 5 1/4" 2 ways mounted in my 91 right now, using the stock grilles with the mesh removed. If you want a pair that will mount using no modifications, you'll likely have to buy them at a Volvo dealership.
