Hard Starting B20F 1800

Hello All,
I'm having a hard start situation with a 72 1800E B20F
motor. The motor when cold cranks a few times at a nice
pace. Then it sounds like it wants to quit. It just barely cranks,
sometimes it will start. If it doesn't, I'll retry starting and the motor
will crank again and then start. I have a new battery with 650 plus
cold cranking amps, new battery cables, 20w50 oil, new points gap to 0.014". I replaced the starter and that didn't make a difference. Once
it starts it runs fine. Some think it could be my timing others think it's more in the starter circut. When cranking the engine once in a while it sounds like it pre-fires. There is a slight power loss barely noticable.

Any help would be great.
Thanks
Clem

Why not check your ignition timing and see if it's correct or not? Then you can rule that possibility out and move on to the next...

"Some think it could be my timing". Indeed correct. Check your ignition timing. If it is set too advanced you can get similar symptomes.
Also, in cold weather, 20W50 is not much of a help either...
Cheers Ben
