Has anyone here put 240 wagon springs in a 240 sedan? Thank You!

Installed them in the rear of my '86 244. Make a lousy, springy ride with the trunk mpty.

Loaded, they support the weight in the rear just fine.

But I can't get mine to quiet down...


Over even the smallest speed bump they bang mercilessly, like they're coming out at the tops, or something.

That sounds more like a bushing issue, although i guess the springs could have a little to do with it. Are your bushings back there all in good shape?

I put some used wagon springs on my '86 sedan recently. It brought the rear height up nicely but does seem to be harsher esp over railroad tracks etc. I hear a thunk from the right rear at these times and know my panhard and torque rod bushings are in dire need of replacement. I did my trailing arm bushings last year.....Do a little bit at a time....until I win the lotto, then I'll get it all done at once.

Me too... however, I installed IpD's wagon lowering springs in my sedan. Love the firm ride on Bilsteins, all new bushings, braces, and 25mm sways.

Yup, I did last spring. The rear end lifted 35 mm measured at the wheelarches. The car handled a lot better when hauling the boat, but was very uncomfortable unloaded. BUT!! I had simply taken the springs from a wagon at the junkyard. I finally found out that what I got was Heavy Duty wagon springs - 14 mm Ø; stay away from these. (Pictures on my web site.) So I'm back to the original sedan springs. The normal wagon springs would be worth a try if you drive a lot with heavy load.

One installation tip: Keep two short 10 mm bolts + new self-locking nuts ready. The D-shaped cups that hold the lower end of the springs to the trailing arms have press-fit bolts. They tend to come loose, and with their round heads you'll get no grip when re-installing.

Yep. Ride height increased a wee bit (less than 1/2 inch), and although the ride got a bit harsher it seemed to handle a bit crisper (IPD bars already in place).
