Hard Starting Wagon 700 1986

Hello, all
I have an '89 740gle wagon with a hard starting problem. The only way the car will start is to "bump" the starter with the key instead of the holding the key in the start position. If you hold the key in the start position, it will turn over and over but will never start. Only "bumping" the key starts the car, but it takes about 5 tries to start it. It's the same no matter hot or cold. When the car starts, it idles fine and runs fine. I can hear the fuel pump prime when the key is switched on.

Thanks, Charles

This is just a shot in the dark, but it sounds like your ignition system may not be getting sufficient juice with the draw from the starter. Maybe your starter is drawing too much current, else perhaps you have a weak coil or some other ignition fault. How are your grounds? Clean and check all, as well as the electrical connections at the coil. Have you done a tune-up recently?
Dunno, but it might be someplace to start.
