Hi,
I need to replace the front struts on my wagon and will be having it done at a shop. I have three quotes within $60.00 of one another. Bogies being the most expensive followed by Monroe and lastly KYB. Money is tight so I am considering the KYB although I know the Bogies are OEM. Plan on having the car another 2+ years. Currently has 154,000 miles on it. Any thoughts on strut brands would be appreciated.

What ever you do, stay away from Gabriel Struts. I put them on last year, against recommendations from other memebers. They lasted only one year. The bushing that the rod runs in was completely wiped out.

The noise it was making was driving me crazy. I checked everything under there saying "Nah, it can't be the Struts. I just put them in." Finally the seal went and there was oil all over, the final clue. Only one side went, but I replaced them both with KYB's.

These Gabriels also have a lifetime warrentee. But who wants to change struts every year!!

Recently i replaced my front struts with bilstein Touring ones.. Reason i choosed that brand was they offer lifetime warranty .And they were 55.00$ per strut. And they r lot more stiffer than i though they would be but i have not had any problems with them yet..

Get some touring class Bilstiens. I just put them on my 91 740 and the handling is MUCH better. I did the job myself this weekend. It took me about 4 hours to change the drivers strut and all the worn front bushings. It took me about 1/2 that time to do all of the passanger side. I bet I could do both sides in under 3 hours now.

But if you don't want to DIY then get the Bilstiens or the Boge's.

FCP Groton had them pretty cheap.

Given the options you listed, I would go with Boge if I could afford them. Second choice would be KYB. I wouldn't even bother with the Monroe -- not worth the labor to put them on.

Recently some one wrote to the BB and lamented putting KYB's on their Volvo, ignoring others advice not to use them.
I have Boge Pro Gas shocks on my 745 GLE, they are terrific because of their variable damping rate, stiffer as they are compressed.
I have KYB on my 242 Turbo, OK but stiff, Monro's are probably useless.
