Stupid voltage regulator question 200

Hello everyone, still working on my electrical system here.

I picked up a bench tested (with 6 month warranty) voltage regulator for 11 bucks, and I want to try swapping that in before I actually touch the alternator. I went to try unplugging the old one, and it doesn't want to play. Is there some way of unclipping the old one, or is a matter of pulling the thing hard enough? I don't want to force it and break something. My Haynes is as unhelful as ever, it just says "remove wires"

Thanks again guys.

Pulling the thing hard enough. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong; long time since I've had one in the shop with this set up; can't you just "put" the "oldest" of the brushpacks in that alternator? The one that's shaped a little differently. Seems like I remember doing that in the past. That would eliminate the wiring entirely.

Two philips screws, and then just pull it, kinda clockwise quarter turn, and pull. Wires? You still have the original one with the wires? Wow!

Just to clarify, I'm talking the silver box on the firewall, not the one built in to the alternator.

As you are in Australia, position of external regulator may be different. In LH drive 240's the ext. reg. was located on the right side front metal between the rad and the RH headlight.

A wiring harness from the alt. (on rh side of engine) with three pronged plastic plug, plugged into the bottom of the reg.

My old Chilton's (to 1983?) and also covering 140's has diagrams.

External regulators can be switched out for newer internal ones. Though the electro-mechanical ext. ones are adjustable.

This post (and the preceding two) are why it helps to include the YEAR along with the model model on the subject line.

It seems like more and more people are bent on keeping it a secret, which I can't understand—because the drop-down "ALL" menu is so obvious.

Just so this post isn't a waste like the other two, your brush holder is a receptacle having 3 flat male terminals. The wires unplug.
