how much should I pay for stuff to convert to power windows 200

I was going to the wreaking yard today to pull all parts needed for a power window conversion. Well, I got there at least it's with in a few miles and told the person at the counter what I wanted, and he said, you may not want the parts after I quote you a price." His price was $300 for everything including moters, swithches and wires. He was right told him I was sure that was too much money. I could see that if maybe he was pulling it and installing it in my car, or if he had a shortage of them. He had about three or four cars that had been just sitting there since July, yet he was not willing to give me a decent deal on his parts. He will probably have them This July too. Then they will probably be crushed with the cars and not even be sold for any money. This seems like bad bussiness to me, even if I would have paid him a $100, he would still be making more then he gave for one of his wreaked cars. If, wanted to, which I don't I could have any electrial shop in town intall aftermarket power windows with in $50 of that price and that's installed! Oh, well, thats not the only place I can get those parts, but his attitude blew me away. Thanks for leting me vent.

I got everything from a 242 turbo for $40, 2 motors 2 regs,2 door handles with switches, one relay, and all the wiring.A guy in Canada bought it all for $136.
If you are in no hurry by a piece here and there until you have everything.
I just won 2 rear black power window door handles on ebay for $10.That completes the conversion list for my car.Now I just need a couple dry days in a row here in the NE.

I know exactly how you feel. I was in Phoenix recently putting an '83DL on the road. I needed a 5 panel taillight. They're pretty rare and neither pick-n-pull had them. There's a Volvo only wrecking yard right around the corner from the pick-n-pull yards so I went there. After waiting about 20 minutes, they come up with the taillamp but want $70 for it. I tell him I can get BOTH rear lamps for less than that next door but didn't want to cut up the rear valence for 6 panel lights. I offer him $40 for it but he won't budge from $70. So I go next door and get two perfect 6-panel lights for $47. I can Ebay my good 5 panel for $25-$30 so I saved $50 by breaking out the tin snips and cutting away. You'd think a Volvo only yard would cater to a Volvo enthusiast but it seems as they are much more interested in fleecing the uninformed or crushing good parts.

Hmmm... if you bought 4 cpmplete doors from that guy you'd probably pay about $300. Sounds nutty to me... see John Sargent's post.

The U-Pull It which I do business with charges $10 each for regulators, and $10 each for the motors. Each door needs a motor and a regulator. Switches are $2.50 each, for a total of $17.50 (four switches in the driver's door plus one switch at three doors). Large wiring harnesses cost $15.00. The grand total is $112.50. That is about 100 miles north of you.

I recently bought a complete set and shipped it overseas to a friend who owns a 1988 744T with manual windows.

I do more checking around locally, however, if I don't get any better results, it might be well worth the drive. I assume this is in or near portland? Do they usually have a good selection of 200 series. Does it still stand to reason that the newer moters are usually the better then the older ones...ie. there was no substitue for platic gears in newer moters?

Thanks for the info and Happy bricking!

The Damascus and Tigard U-Pull It wrecking yards have lots of 240s, but I have not looked at how many have power windows. The cars often get picked over quickly, so it may take more than one trip of scavenging parts.
