trunk locked shut, help get the homework out! 700

My sons 89 740t's trunk is locked shut. The electric actuator does't work. Having purchased the car used the only key he has is the valet key, and the lock hasn't seen a key in years. How do I get the trunk open to retrieve his school books so he can do his homework(my priority not his of-course). I have checked the fuses, the door locks work, the failure had no warning signs, and when I feel the trunk as the door locks are actuated I don't fell any movement. Also no sound is heard.

Merci

Yvan

I had to do the long extensions and a 10mm to get into one 240 I bought...other than that I'd say dealer with the vin # I did the locksmith route with another...took the latch to them and he was about 3 hours getting one made...and it still does not work right...they may have been having a bad day...3 different guys had a go at it though.

Either go to the dealer Parts department with your VIN # in hand, and have them punch out a new key, or, take your valet key to any shop that cuts keys and have them copy that onto the normal key blank.
The replacement blanks sold by your typical hardware stores are a full-cut key, not the odd valet key. That will let you into the trunk without getting creative.

I did unlock my 240's trunk once with about 5 feet of extensions and a 10mm socket... but it wasn't easy.

We have our "special" key...it's a shaved down who knows whose key, thin, kinda crooked...but if you put it in and pretend to have an epileptic fit...you'll be in the trunk in no time.

How small is your son? Make him crawl through the ski hole! Kidding! You do have to get to the latch through the opening in the rear seat, or pull the rear seat. There are release points. May be easier to get a locksmith.

Yea this I would like to see with my son, eats 6 times a day and no junk food. Look carefully at him in the picture, hes sitting in the drivers seat of the 240 wagon. He did however manage to lock the key inside the car, the only key to the blasted car at that! What I did find was another key that actually fit and opened the damn thing, it was my leftover key from my old 242 flathood! What are the odds of this???

The only other idea that comes to mind is to look at a wiring schematic and see if you can track down the wires leading to the trunk latch motor and run it that way to get inside. After this I would disable the lock until a real key can be made if not already in the works.

With my son and his best friend in the back of my Ranger at the same time, they exceed the maximum load capacity and sink it to the rubber stops!
