adding remote door lock question

Just wired up the power lock solenoid/actuator from an 87 745. I got it from the passanger side and hooked it up on the drivers side. There are 2 wires coming out of the unit. How are these units wired? Does one go positive and the other to ground, and then alternate on unlock? How can I test if they work? If I add 12volts directly to one side and ground the other shouldn't it activate? Then if I switch the wires it should go in the other direction?

Has anyone any experiences here that can help me? Since I can't get the aftermarket unit to work on the door locks, I'm now questioning the solenoid I got.

Thanks
TPL

As you say it should work if connected across 12V and reverse it`s action if you swap polarity. If it doesn`t you appear to have picked up a faulty one.
It may do nothing the first try if it`s already at the end of it`s travel for that polarity.
If it`s been sitting in a junkyard for a long time it may be seized, you should be able to pull out and push back the plunger by hand.

adding remote door lock question--now on to remote start

Thanks, I got the door actuator figured out.

Now the last part of my remote door lock/starter debaucle is the remote start. I hooked everything up per the manual, but it still won't turn over.

For a 91 740 the instructions only show one ignition wire, the blue/red wire at the key switch and one starter wire, the pink one.

Are there any secondary starter or ignition wires? I think there is a blue/green wire off of the back of the switch as well. Anyone know what this goes to?

The remote starter computer has secondary ignition outputs. But I don't think I need them.

Everything is working except when it tries to crank it sounds like it only get's about one turn and dies. It sounds like trying to turn over a car with an ALMOST dead battery.

Of course it works fine with the key.

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds as if the out-put fron the start computer is trying to supply the main cranking current instead of just operating the solenoid.
