15' borbet type e with what summer tire? 200

I am probably going to get a set of 4 15" Borbet Type E's for my 88 240. I have read through past posts and some have mentioned offset and possible rubbing with these rims (although they might have been talking about 16" rims.) Are the 15" Borbets OK? Also what is a preferred summer tire with a quiet, comfortable ride? Thanks, Fred

My vote is for the Bridgestone Potenza RE950 in 205/60-15. Had these on Dracos on my '92 245 for almost a year now, most of which is in the desert. Nice ride, quiet, and great grip.

Using Kumho Ecsta 712s, 205/55/15, on Virgos with no rubbing. The ride is a bit stiffer than with the stock tire size, the tires are reasonably quiet and stick like glue. A great value in a performance radial.

Size is one thing - what's at stake for rubbing is the offset.

The Kumho KH11's I currently have on my 245 are quiet and ride wells, yet still handle good. They stick good too, wet or dry. Didn't miss a beat a couple months ago when I was caught in a desert storm - it was coming down at a rate of 2"/hr. No slipping, no hydroplaning, no problems at 70mph.

And they're affordable too - under $60/ea., shipped.

    Hi Fred,

I am running 205-55R15 Dunlop SP5000 on my BMW 325is. Like the Volvo, there is also a risk of rubbing if I go wider. There are others here running the same tire on their 240's with Turbo rims.

    Cheers
    Raj

I'm sure there are lots of people running that size, but just to make sure we're all on the same track here, those tires are a slightly smaller diameter than what was stock. If i had virgos on a 240(not a wagon), i'd probably be running exactly that size also. So, for those Borbets, i recommend the same size if you're looking for better performance, if you're looking for more comfort, and less acceleration and minimally better gas mileage, you could go with 205/60s or just 195/60s. The Borbets, if you got them specifically for a Volvo, shouldn't rub at all. Tirerack used to, or still does, list these wheels for the 240, and if you got them from those guys, they will mount up with no problems whatsoever. If you could find out the offset on the wheels that you have/are getting, we can tell you if they'll rub or not. Also the width of the rims is needed. I doubt you'll be having a problem... But let us know and we'll try to help.
