I have a 93 240 Wagon, and I notice that there is a metal plate located on the rear portion of my Front Brakes that is deteriorating badly and beginning to rust through. I intend to repair this, but two questions. Number One, does it need immediate attention and number Two, exactly what is it called so I know what to ask for when I visit Volvo parts.

It's a dust shield, and it's important but not vital. In other words, if the dust shield is deteriorating, you won't lose brake function... but your brakes will get beat up more by stones than if it was intact. Repair with fiberglass, or replace it with a good one from a boneyard.

it's a dust plate and it should be replaced. it would keep large items like rocks, etc. from getting into the brakes. a used 1 in better shape will do. good luck, chuck.
