The on going saga of the wagon continues...
The car died again on me after highway driving in heavy rain...
came off the road, got to the lights, had to wait for the green
and as I started to pull thru the engine cut out.
Fortunately I rolled right into a parking lot...whew!

At any rate, I took a real hard look at everything and found
that water is being thrown up the firewall onto the distro.

I pulled the wire (all new btw) from the coil and found what looked like
droplets of water inside the cap and it seemed to have leaked down the wire
and inside the cap...

Dried it out and sprayed the wires and disto with clear ign spray
and it seems to have prevented stalling today while driving in the same condx.
Anyone else found this kind of problem? ... Never experienced the problem
with the car until this winter...

yes - I had the same problem - right above the distributor there is a split - box for the windshield washer liquid - with time the little tubes are getting loose and washer gets ouot - the other culprit - the fire wall rubber sealer/ gasket is attached to it with some plastic clips which are getting very brittle - I suspect if in the winter driving stop- and- go manner - then some condens would occure - few guesses - I drove mine 74 (216,000 mls) with intermittent missfiring for a while - then replaced the distr. cap and wires + sealed them off with dielectric silicone grease - now it is ok

Dielectric grease eh?....I haven't used it, what make do u use?

Is your car missing its splash pan under the front of the engine compartment?

the front splash pan is still there, BUT
there was a shield on the exhaust pipes just below & to the left when viewed from the front of the car that was spot welded to the exh..it's long gone.....
