Would these front strut boots fit? 200 1989

Hi All,

Any reason why these strut boots:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33590&item=2470799838#ShippingPayment

would NOT fit my 89 240??? I am installing boge turbo gas cartridges. Keeping original upper strut bearings.

As I can now see (with the help of BB replies) the original bumps stops were/are held on the small washer at the top of the strut shaft below the upper bearing. The bottom just tie wraps to the strut tube so that's for sure the same. One of my bulp stops has fallen (i.e. the small washer has ripped out of it), and the orig boots are disintegrated.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, and sorry to ask again about strut boots... I want to have all I need to do this job once only.

The Sachs Advantage I bought came in a sealed box with only the top nut and the gland nut that holds the cartridge in the strut tube. As Art Benstein points out here, the Bentley manual statement:

“gas-charged cartridges should include rubber bellows with metal washer inside at top, tapered side up. Rubber bump stop over strut inside coil spring is only for non-gas-charged cartridges”

may possibly be talking about the genuine Volvo gas charged cartridges.

The Sachs Advantage seemed to be identically dimensioned to the original Volvo cartridges. Even if the rubber bump stop was not intended for Sachs Advantage, it fits fine, doesn't "get in the way" as far as I can tell, and provides a suitable mounting point for the boot.

I suppose with a little creativity/ingenuity, a lot of things can be adapted to fit.

Here's the details on the parts meant for the boge turbo gas cartridges though:

The bump stop that sits on a lip at the top of the upper strut shaft (with the embedded metal washer) looks like this: You can see the metal washer at the top of the right-hand image. You can find them at Groton:1221647 Strut Bump Stop $34.00.

The boot looks like this: The rounded lip fits over the ridge on the bump stop that you can see on the left of the left-hand bump stop image. Here it is at Groton: :1229659 Strut Bellow/Boot $9.05. These straight style boots do not tie wrap onto the strut tube like the bellows style ones do. They simply slide up and down loosely against the tube.

In the big picture, given all the work you're going to do, I think you're best off to bite the bullet and buy the appropriate bump stop and boots. I'd advise you to have new upper strut mounts available too. If yours are original, there's a good chance they'll need replacing, and there's no additional labour. If need be, return them if you find they're not needed.

Don't recall the model nubmer, but I used some Gabriel strut boot covers when I did my 245. Worked fine. Picked 'em up at the local AutoZone for $12/ea.

Thanks but my question was more around what the difference is between the boots for the 240 and those for the 740/940... These are 141274 which are for 740/940. The 240 takes 141744. Both boots look identical in pictures.
Also I cannot imagine that the strut tubes nor the strut shafts would be different diameter. So what is the difference?
Should I just get these and cross my fingers they will be fine for the 240?

Around my area (Ottawa Canada) most places don't carry the boots and I found one but the bump stops look "generic" and they are 25$ each (somewhat pricy for a rubber sleeve).

Advice? thanks.

As long as the strut piston is the same dimeter it should work. OEEM boots won't work with Bilsteins because the piston is larger. Boge Turbogas?? don't know.
