Engine frequently shuts off in heavy trafic 700 1986

Car is 1986 740T with B230 engine.
In heavy, stop and go traffic, it will frequently
shut off. Usually as I let my foot off the accelerator,
anticipating another stop. Normal idle speed is around
800 - 900 rpm. Car can be restarted instantaneously, and
it's just a matter of time before it shuts off again.

Normal highway type of driving is perfectly fine.
I suspect some component is overheating. Perhaps Hall's
sensor. What I don't understand is, the car restarts fine.
Faulty Hall's sensor requires much cooler engine temperature.

Any ideas ?

Ted, does the idle slowly go down and then a stall? I would possibly clean my Throttle body.

I had that scenario so I was playing the Brake, clutch gas pedal game in traffic to keep the idle up.

I did the throttle body clean , fuel pump regulator and replaced my 25 amp Fuse holder. Don't know which was at fault but I'm good-to-go.

Besides checking the Hall sensor (I had one do intermittant stalls on a Reliant), try resoldering he fuel pump relay.

Sounds a lot like Hall sensor (you are due for one) or a wiring fault in your engine harness. Have you inspected it for insulation failure?
