wanna join the club - front end work to be done first 700

hi everyone,

been long considering changing my 240 to a 740, tho i hope no 240 owner reads this. now i see a 88 740 wagon offered for 400 bucks. it has been in an accident hitting a deer. the hood is bent, its like 5 cms higher than it should be, no big deal, but the drivers side mount is completely broken. is it complicated to get this things done. oh, and the headliner also needs to be replaced. seller claims that brakes, tires, plug vcaps, rotor were replaced. i never needed to do body work before, how much dya huys think these things *headliners, straightening hood, headliners) would cost?

thx

david

Headliner will cost around $400 if you have a shop do it (I got numerous estimates). I bought the headliner kit from IPD for around $100 and did it in a weekend. They also have the instructions are available online.

A hood can be had for under $50 at a pick-n-pull. But if you can force it down mostly flat, you could consider just getting a set of hood pins (at an autoparts store) to hold it down.

Have you looked under the hood to see if other stuff was bent/broken in the process? Are the lights/trim intact?

Headliner ... if you have a sunroof, it's tougher, but not impossible for DIY. Consider having a shop do this for a couple hundred if you're not comfortable.

If the rest of the car checks out, $400 is worth it.

Headliner cost me $AUD250 by a local auto upholster.
Put a nice felt material on looks good.
Sunroof cars are much more costly $AUD 400-450
