740 still have problems but making progress 700

So now I can drive it during the day but will still give me the same problem at night. It dies on me after putting it in drive. Tonight I tried it again and it moved but when I turned on the lights it died and wouldn't move for me after that. I don't think it is the cold start problem because I live in the valley of Az and the low here is above the rest of the nations high. I am so close to just selling the damn thing and putting the money into my acura. When it does move it is great. Thanks in advance

First question, is it a turbo or non turbo?
So youve figured our it is not electrical, and from what i have read it is deff related to the outside temp. And the car will idle at any temp, but as soon as you go to shift it into a gear it die's below the 70 degree mark. So im going to list a few things here if you have checked them and and posted back as so forgive me lot's of posts down there hard to remember all the info.
I live in Southern California so i feel your pain here. I know above 80 outside from a cold start mine start's like it's warm, if it's below that it does its normall putter start, putter putter putter vrommmmmmm. and i have everything etiher new or tuned properly.

First off i would look at your IAC motor, it is possile it is failing, pull it out and give it a quick cleaning and see if it help's. you can check the movement one you get it off with your finger and see if ti move's.

Second, take a look at your air to fuel misture, if it is off you could easly get results like this, Colder air is thinker then hotter air, maybe theres not enough fuel for the colder air and thus the mixture is not accurate. this is reaching on that one as it should run either way, but its possible.

Third, Look at all your gasket's, they expand when they get hot, it is also possible that below 70 you have a gasket somewhere on the engine shrinking just enough to let air in.

Forth, Have you done a compression check on the cyl's?

Fifth, if you havent done this check the o2 sensor, there is instruction in the F&Q on how to do this i believe, this could easly cause running problem's.

Off the top of my head those are the things i would check now, none of them will cost you anything but might get you somewhere with the problem.

I'm still little confused. Does it die when moving from park to drive with the lights on? Or that you are already in drive and turn on the lights? Parking lights only, low beam, high beam?

I verified that the lights have nothing to do with it. It runs fine during the day with or without the lights on. At night however (around 70 deg) it dies when putting it in drive or reverse.

voltage regulator is ok 700

It is 90 deg and I turned on the lights started the car and drove it around the block. What temp piece can be affecting this? I know when I come back over tonight that it will die on me as soon as I put it in drive. Thanks

Have you checked your ground's if so have you cut your wireing harness open to find the short in the wire, i once had a short which shorted out my starter, couldnt figure it out for the life of me just sitting there one day and smelt wire buring, next thing i know i couldnt get the start to even click, i put a bypass in then 6 months later went to hook it back up and everything worked fine. blew me away. theres also the stor of when the lights are on the wipers come on. some things to check there this is an electrical problem if its only when the lights are on!

the car was giving me this problem all the time when I first bought it. A new harness was one of the first things I put on after I got it home. So to date I have put the harness, plugs, plug wires, distributor (the whole thing). All new belts including timing belt. Fuel system has had both fuel pumps changed out along with the hoses, new fuel regulator again new vacuum hose. The flame trap, assembly was replaced with a new one. New oxygen sensor was put on, new temp sensor for the temp guage. The intake gasket was replaced and the throttle valve cleaned up.

Now it will run during the day but not at night. The throttle bogs down if you slam the pettle but will recover.

It just accured to me how much I have dumped into this car and am still having problems. Anyone care to guess what I have been doing on my 2 month vacation? Thanks again

check your voltage...maybe it's the regulator, if the voltage on the bus drops
too low the engine mgt computer and sensors may not function correctly.

I haven't heard this mentioned so I will chime in,

Could be your Air Mass Meter. When it dies at night try this test. Unplug the AMM.
Your computer will automatically go into "limp home mode" you will get a fixed amount of fuel to the injectors but it will be enough to get you home. If it dies at night but runs with a AMM unplugged, that that is your culprit. AMMs are temp sensitive in that they measure air mass by measuring the cooling effect of air moving over hot wires. I'm not sure how wacky they can get with a 20 degree difference in temp but who knows. It sounds like you have all the other bases covered, so it's worth a try. Sure sounds like a very likely culprit to me.
