air duct fan does not turn off (and a bonus question) 200

hello brick lovers!

Today I just noticed something that wasn't there before. Normally I have the fan on #1, but today I noticed that it was on the OFF (or pointed past #1) position but I could feel and hear air coming from the air ducts at the level of #1 fan speed. Before the fan would turn off when it was switched to the far left. Is this something to be concerned about? All fan speeds #1-#4 work according to the speed level, BUT the fan does not turn off when in the off position. In the off position, the fan speed is that of #1. Is this an issue that I should be concerned about?

I have another question. How do I remove the front seat headrests? I can easily remove the rear headrests just by pulling them up. I need to remove my sheepskin covers and wash them. I bought the car with them, and it's been a long while that I took them off for a good wash. I just cannot seem to remove the headrests though! I've tried pulluing them up but to no avail. Do I need to use more force? Thanks so much!

Your fan should not be blowing in the off position. Most likely your AC switch isn't fully in the off position. Off is not at 12:00, but rather a little to the left. Turn it hard all the way until you hear the click and the fan should turn off.

From your seat back, feel through the vinyl about four or five inches below where the two head rest posts go in. You should feel a plastic tab about an inch round in front of each post. Push both of these while pulling the headrest up and it should come out. If it's kind of stuck you might need somebody to help you as most people don't have three arms.

Scan down the list and read my post titled, Shakey engine...SOLVED.

I don't know what year your car is but I have a 87 that when it was new the fan did not run in the off position. I also have a 92, and its fan does not run in the off position.

I don't think they are supposed to run when off. I've never read anything about them running when off in the owners manual.

In my case it is a malfunction of the switch that is also bumping my rpm's up to
    950 at idle.

Read my other post for more info.

check and see if your A/C is on. If it is, it'll keep the fan running always. I had that happen a while back.

Bonus: There are little retaining things in the foam at the bottom of the two ends of the headrest. Pinch the foam there and they should come out.

    good luck,

The fan spins in the "off" position when the car is running to keep condensation out of the air conditioning system. When the car is off (but accessories on), the fan doesn't spin in the "off" position. This is normal behavior.

I cannot answer the bonus question, sorry!

Only when the A/C is turned on. At least on my car, "off" is "off"
unless the A/C (which is broken anyway, heh) is on, in which case
the fan spins at the same speed at position "1."
