ICU Connector 200

1988 240DL B230F

Is it possible to replace the connector that goes into the Ignition Control Unit (ICU) without replacing the entire wiring harness?

Thanks!

I replaced mine on the 85 several years back. I bought the parts for less than $10 from Volvo, the pins are sold separately from the connector. Dan

Do you know for sure the connector is bad, or are you just figuring on replacing it after reading the warnings about it being a once-only affair?

Two years ago I replaced the ICU with an aftermarket unit on one of my 88s without any problems whatsoever. Be careful, of course, and try not to break anything. Use some dialectric grease for good measure before you put it back together. But I don't think you'll have any problems.

I've heard mixed reviews about the "sleeves". Expensive, cannot remove from ICU. You might want to try expanding the connector prongs with a jewler's screwdriver and use plenty of dielectric grease.

I had a problem where the tach sensor connector was making bad contact. On a Chyrsler ignition system, this is a separate connection before the ICU. I just worked the connector a few times, and coated it with grease. Seems to be holding...
